Frequent eating places

Here is a quick list of the places I frequent for dinner or wished I did around where I stay at Yushima. Mostly I go there because they are close by and its late at night and I really don’t want to travel too far for anything else. Nevertheless, they are good (to me) and that’s why I visit them more than once, well not necessary everyday, but I won’t mind going back to them.

豚カツ (tonkatsu)

I found this place at the corner near the 711 store where I exit at the Yushima station for home. I would usually order the 特上ロースカツ(Special Superior Pork Loin katsu). Its a really thick and juicy pork loin at 2,100 円. This shop is usually very busy packing take aways, I guess mostly because the shop is small with only a U-shaped counter and people don’t really want to smell like カツ after that. Mind you, it takes time if you want to eat good katsu. You should expect to wait about 3-5 mins for your meal, so be prepared to read some book if you are alone, or like me I read the menu and try to learn new words.

カレーライス (kare risu)

I have visited this shop, called CoCo, for about 5-6 times for late dinner already. It serves a variety of curry rice and you can pick and choose extra ingredients to go with it and how much more rice and spicy you want it to be. In my opinion, they already give a LOT of rice, yeah Japanese are great carbo eaters, so unless you are really hungry, there is no need to get more rice. I tried number 3 spicy once and its really hot, I think the normal curry is good enough, no need to test my taste buds. Prices is about 1,000 円 for a decent dinner.

吉野店 (Yoshinoya)

How can we not talk about one of my favorite, yoshinoya and its 牛丼 (gyu don). Its strange that I expect it to taste like the crappy Singapore version. Luckily, the original ones in Tokyo are so much more tastier then the ones in Singapore. If you can zoom into the picture, you can also see that it have beef sukiya rice… juicy and nice!
あんみつ (anmitsu)

あんみつ stores are basically your traditional Japanese desserts cafe. This shop is just around the corner, near where I stay. Usually, if I cycle, I would stop along the glass casing a pick up a few desserts. Other than the traditional mochi offering, they also have red bean desserts with syrup, hence the name あん (bean) みつ (sweet syrup /honey). One would be quick to notice that most of the desserts are made with either beans and/or mochi. If you don’t like any of these, you can forget eating them.

吉池 (Yoshiike)

This is an old supermarket cum shopping centre of sorts… ala peoples park type. Things are not necessary more cheaper, but definitely no more expensive. What I like about it is that that fruit stalls, although not much fruits and supermarket opens till quite late, even past 11 pm. I usually do my grocery shopping here at night.
